Bellissimo Bellagio

On Father's Day, we took a day trip to Lake Como. The weather was absolutely perfect. We rode a train from Milan to Lake Como and then a boat from Lake Como to Bellagio. Bellagio is also called "the pearl of Lake Como" and we couldn't think of a more fitting name. With views of the Alps across the lake to the charming restaurants and shops along the cobblestone paths, Bellagio was the perfect little town, so picturesque. It seemed as if there were surprises waiting for us at every corner...

We ate at the lovely Trattoria San Giacomo for lunch. Someone's review on tripadvisor.com said, "It doesn't get better than this!" and we couldn't agree more. The staff was so friendly and it was worth the hour wait. Our pasta dishes were simply delicious, made with the freshest of ingredients.

We also had the most amazing frozen yogurt. The frozen yogurt in Italy is yogurt gelato so it is much more creamier and rich. Topped with halved strawberries, it was like they were dipped in frozen whipped cream.

Ladurée: Crème de le macaron

On top of our to do list in Milan was to go to Ladurée. As we swung open the door and stepped inside, it was a dream come true. We took our macarons to go in their trademark pastel green bag and ate them in front of the Teatro alla Scala, the world renown opera house. They were delightful and made to perfection. It is no surprise that Ladurée has its name. 

After our decadent snack we walked to the Navigli Canals, stopping at boutiques along the way. We bought a rich dessert at a local bakery and ate it on the tram ride back to the city center. The trams really added to the city. We couldn't picture Milan without them. 

It was the perfect day, filled with sweet little treats.

Sittin' on the Steps of the Duomo

While we were in Milan, we walked past the Duomo cathedral countless times. But every time we passed by, it was like the first time. The cathedral was absolutely stunning. It comes as no surprise that the cathedral took nearly six centuries to complete as no detail was overlooked. We thought the outside was pretty spectacular but our jaws dropped once we stepped inside. From the stained glass to the marble floor, the cathedral was breathtaking, inside and out.

Bongiorno Milano

For the past nine days we've been roaming the streets of Milan. Along the way we saw The Last Supper, did some major shopping, had delicious pizza and pasta, and of course gelato. It was nice to be back in Europe after a 7 year hiatus. We have lots of posts in store of our wonderful trip but here is a little preview!
